The JKPeV team had an incredible time in Budapest, Hungary, representing at the 2nd Transnational Partner Meeting and the Youth Award Ceremony of the HerStories project! Our filmmaker Olga Yocheva and EU Programme Manager Myrto-Helena Pertsinidi joined forces with Centropa Hungary, Galicia Jewish Museum, Centropa Germany, Jewish Museum of Greece, and Mozaika from Spain to discuss the project’s progress and future plans.

On May 31st, the transnational meeting covered many exciting updates, including the local exhibitions, the project’s website, the communication strategy, and the documentary film produced by JKPeV. We’re thrilled to announce the final event will be held in Dresden in September 2024, organized by JKPeV.

We also had the privilege to tour the Mozaik Hub and the Rumbach Synagogue with Maria Lieberman, who enlightened us about its rich history and architecture. The tour of contested places of memory truly made us reflect critically on historical monuments and their modern-day relevance.

In the afternoon, Olga Yocheva captured heartfelt interviews from partners’ representatives, showcasing their contributions and the impact of the “HerStories” project on their communities.

On June 1st, we were joined by 33 pupils and 12 teachers from 7 countries for a Jewish quarter walking tour in Budapest, delving into the history, culture, and life of the Jewish communities. The screening of Hedvig Endrei’s play-film and the engaging student session at the Mozaik Hub were unforgettable. However, the highlight was meeting Holocaust survivors Vera Szekeres-Varga and Olga Sólyom, whose powerful stories left a lasting impression on us all.

The evening culminated in an inspiring award ceremony at JCC Bálint House. We celebrated the exceptional documentary films and podcasts created by the students, honoring the stories of Jewish women and their impactful roles during and after the war.

Congratulations to all the students who participated! Your dedication to preserving women’s stories and Jewish heritage is truly inspiring!

The HerStories project is co-funded by the European Union within the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Program. For more information, visit her-stories.eu.
