A look back: an unforgettable musical reading at the Terezin Memorial
Last Thursday, our musical reading ICH WAND’RE DURCH THERESIENSTADT took place in the special atmosphere of the former ghetto of Theresienstadt as part of our project of the same name, which was deeply moving.
Actor Roman Knižka, the wind quintet OPUS 45 and contemporary witness Edith Erbrich took the audience on a moving journey through history: the cultural life of the prisoners, their suffering and their unwavering creativity were impressively evoked with poignant texts and pieces of music.
Edith Erbrich, who was deported to the ghetto with her family in 1945, shared her personal memories of the horrors and hopes of that time and was then available for moving encounters.
The music of composers such as Pavel Haas, Hans Krása and Gideon Klein, which was created in Theresienstadt, reminded us how art can be a source of hope and self-assertion in life’s darkest moments.
A big thank you to everyone who made this project of the Educational Agenda for the Remembrance of National Socialist Injustice possible, to the students and teachers, as well as to the Foundation EVZ and the Federal Ministry of Finance for their support.
Let us carry these stories forward and never forget them.
