What is our city really saying? UDEW workshops

  |   News

In August, we ran the UDEW – Urban Decolonisation Walks workshop, exploring Europe’s colonial heritage in public spaces.

In the workshop “Rewriting the Narratives,” participants used creative storytelling and design to imagine more inclusive, open, and diverse public spaces. They represented how cities could be places where everyone feels welcomed, seen, and celebrated.

In Dresden, a guided walk helped uncover stories behind street names and monuments, revealing links to histories of violence and injustice. This encouraged participants to see the city with new perspectives.

Projects like UDEW are essential for raising awareness about the traces of colonial history, broadening perspectives, and empowering young people to champion justice, diversity, and inclusion.
