V.E.G.A.

Visualizing European Goals through Arts

2023-2-PT02-KA220-YOU-000173593

Duration: 24 months (01/06/2024 – 31/05/2026)

Summary of the project:

Research on young Europeans’ views of the EU consistently reveals two key findings. First, there’s a strong overall support for the Union among this demographic. However, there’s also a notable gap in understanding the specific actions and policies implemented by EU institutions.

The European Youth Goals (EYG) represent a groundbreaking approach to youth policy. Directly informed by the aspirations of 50,000 young people, these goals serve as a blueprint for addressing the challenges and opportunities facing Europe’s youth. By placing young people at the heart of policymaking, the EYG have become the cornerstone of the EU Youth Strategy, ensuring that youth needs and perspectives are central to the Union’s agenda.

V.E.G.A. – Visualising European Goals through Arts project seeks to bridge the knowledge gap surrounding the European Youth Goals among young people by harnessing the power of visual arts. Non-formal education through creative expression is a potent tool for engaging youth and fostering skill development. By combining comics, graffiti, graphic art, video, and photography, the project aims to highlight the relevance of the EYG to young people’s daily lives. This collaborative initiative will bring together youth from Portugal, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Germany to exchange ideas and learn from experts in EU youth policies.

The objectives of the V.E.G.A. project are the following:

  • raising youth awareness about the relevance of the European youth policies in their daily lives,
  • deepen young people’s knowledge of the European Youth Goals,
  • empower youth to become active participants in shaping their communities and Europe’s future through creative expression,
  • equip young people with visual arts competencies to effectively communicate complex ideas,
  • promote a stronger connection between young people and the EU by exploring the practical applications of European Youth Goals at the national level.

The V.E.G.A. project focuses directly on the following target groups:

  • young people between 16 and 25
  • youth workers 18+

The V.E.G.A. project outputs and activities:

Young participants will be trained on the importance of the E.Y.G. and will later create five visual art pieces (comics, graffiti, photography, graphic and video art) as informative tools for their peers and the community. The creation of these artworks will help young participants develop new skills and be active citizens.

  • International Training for young participants to be held in Hungary.
  • Facilitator’s Booklet – a brief guide for youth workers to explain interactive, innovative and informal strategies for informing youth about EYG.
  • Series of installation exhibitions of visual artworks created by the young people involved in the partner countries.
  • Series of events – local and international events at which it will present the project and its objectives, activities implemented and project results to the wider community.
