METAMORPHOSIS DES GEISTES – Vernissage

“Children playing with a bomb.” This is how the Swedish philosopher Nick Bostrom described us, today’s humanity, not only developing artificial intelligence (AI) but indulging in it almost without restraint, unaware of the consequences. The image is by no means new; it runs through cultural history from the Golem of early medieval Jewish mysticism to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to the HAL 9000 on-board computer running amok in Stanley Kubrick’s film “2001: A Space Odyssey”. While some put this mask of horror on digitalisation, art in virtual space is really flourishing. Reflecting on the infinite possibilities that arise thanks to the computer was the central theme of the Digital Art Residencies initiated by the Jugend und Kulturprojekt e.V..

Over a period of three months, local and international artists used digital collaboration software to create works on the theme METAMORPHOSIS OF THE MIND. The focus was on the creative adaptation of digital technologies. The resulting works show art as something that is created between several individuals and digital networks through complex interactions: a fusion.
