Remembering begins with education! The HerStories project presents a variety of outputs to help you bring Jewish history to life
Especially in times of growing social polarisation and dwindling historical knowledge, remembering the past is of central importance. It helps us to understand the roots of current challenges, to develop empathy for different perspectives and to work for a fairer and more united future. With the HerStories project, we want to help preserve the diverse voices of Jewish women in the 20th century and bring their experiences into today’s discourses.
Today, we are pleased to present the results of the HerStories project, which is co-financed by the European Union under the CERV programme. The partners include Centropa – Zentrum für Jüdische Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts e.V. (Hamburg, Germany), the Jewish Museum of Galicia (Krakow, Poland), the Jewish Museum of Greece (Athens, Greece), Mozaika (Barcelona, Spain), Centropa Alipitvany (Budapest, Hungary) and Jugend- & Kulturprojekt e.V. (Dresden, Germany).
HerStories highlights the life stories of seven Jewish women from Germany, Poland, Greece, Spain, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Their biographies tell of persecution, flight and resistance, but also of survival, love and reconstruction – and thus offer unique insights into Jewish history in 20th century Europe.
We invite you to discover the project’s diverse outputs and use them in your work:
- Multilingual travelling exhibition: The exhibition tells the stories of the seven women through historical photos, interviews and context. It can be borrowed to raise awareness of Jewish life stories in your organisation as well.
- Teaching materials: Developed for direct use in the classroom, the materials offer innovative approaches to teaching Jewish history and remembrance culture to young people. They are available free of charge on our website.
- Compendium of best teaching practices: This handbook supports educators and educational institutions in teaching complex historical topics and offers field-tested methods for interactive learning.
- Documentary film about HerStories: A moving film that documents the development of the project and brings the voices of the protagonists to life. Ideal as accompanying material for workshops, seminars or public screenings.
All materials and information on booking the exhibition can be found here: www.her-stories.eu
We warmly invite you to use the project results of HerStories in your work to preserve the memory of these important women and to shed new light on European history from new perspectives.
