Echoes in Ink [2026]
About This Project
Echoes in Ink
The Art of Remembrance

Project Duration: January 2026 – December 2026
Project Overview:
Project Association (JKPeV), has impressively demonstrated how effectively young people can be sensitized to Jewish history and the persecution under National Socialism through artistic approaches. Through biographical research, graphic novel workshops, and the creative development of their own comics, an innovative educational format was created that combines remembrance culture, historical-political education, and artistic practice.
The results of the pilot project clearly show that art enables an emotional, personal, and sustainable engagement with history—especially for young people.
In 2026, the project will be further developed as part of the Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony – Tacheles 2026, and directly integrated into the school context in Saxony. This brings Echoes in Ink 2026 closer to the everyday lives of students in grades 7 to 12 and creates low-threshold access to historical education within the school environment.
At a time when antisemitic incidents are increasing, historical narratives are being distorted or suppressed, and right-wing extremist ideologies are gaining visibility again, the project sends a clear message: for remembrance, for responsibility, and for democratic education.
Target Groups:
The project primarily addresses:
- Students in grades 7 – 12 at secondary schools in Saxony
- Young people in a formative phase of identity and value development
This target group is beginning to critically reflect on social contexts, develop their own positions, and explore questions of responsibility, belonging, and justice.
Indirectly, the project also reaches:
- Teachers, who gain new didactic and creative methods for classroom teaching
- Parents and families, who are involved through school presentations and outcomes
- The wider school community, which accompanies the project process
- The general public, through exhibitions, digital publication, and media coverage
Thus, the project creates impact beyond the classroom into school, family, and society.
Project Activities ECHOES IN INK 2026:
Workshops in Schools:
The project will be implemented at several secondary schools in Saxony. Each school will host a compact project day consisting of three consecutive workshop modules (90 minutes each):
- Workshop Antisemitism & Culture of Remembrance
Introduction to Jewish history, the Shoah, and local biographies, as well as a critical examination of antisemitism in the past and present.
- Graphic Novel & Storytelling Workshop
Introduction to the basics of comic storytelling: visual language, character development, storyboarding, and visual narration.
- Artistic Implementation
Students develop their own short comics based on Jewish biographies and social issues.
Individual Support & Feedback:
Educational professionals and artists accompany the students throughout the entire creative process. They support them in developing their stories, conducting biographical research, and implementing their own short comics visually.
Public Presentation & Exhibition:
The completed works will be presented in a public exhibition at the Full Moon Gallery. In addition, selected works will be published digitally and made accessible via online platforms in order to reach a broader audience and encourage dialogue on remembrance culture. As part of the exhibition, an award ceremony will also take place, in which outstanding works will be recognized by a professional jury consisting of experts from the fields of art, education, and Jewish perspectives.
Project Goals:
Echoes in Ink 2026 pursues four central objectives:
- Prevention of antisemitism: Students critically engage with antisemitism in history and the present, recognize mechanisms of exclusion, and learn to question them.
- Creative culture of remembrance: Historical content is translated into a visual, accessible, and emotional form through the medium of comics/graphic novels.
- Empowerment and self-efficacy: Young people develop their own narratives, actively create, and experience that their perspectives are socially relevant.
- Visibility of Jewish perspectives: Jewish biographies and voices form the core of the project and are intentionally placed at the center.
Project Outcomes:
The project results in several publicly visible outputs:
- Graphic Novel Collection (E-Book): A digital collection of all student-created comics as a sustainable educational resource.
- Exhibition at Full Moon Gallery Dresden: Presentation of selected works in a public art space.
- Award Ceremony: Recognition of outstanding contributions by a professional jury from art, education, and Jewish perspectives.
- Digital Publication: Dissemination via project website, social media, and educational partners.
Interested schools can apply for a project day at their institution. Places are limited in order to ensure intensive support for the students.
Take the opportunity to inspire your students to engage creatively and reflectively with history, remembrance culture, and social responsibility – and send a strong message for democratic education and against antisemitism.
