Making Jewish Life in Saxony Visible: Remembering, Networking, Creating

  |   Events, News

On 14 March 2025, the fourth edition of the LET’S SHARE ONE UMBRELLA networking event took place at the KulturCentrale Dresden. As part of this inspiring event, we presented our project ‘Making Jewish Life in Saxony Visible’ and took part in the working group ‘Living Remembrance Culture’. In the midst of committed art, culture and education stakeholders, this was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with other initiatives and gain new impulses for remembrance work. How can a culture of remembrance reach younger generations? This question was the focus of the discussion. Our project relies on innovative approaches to make Jewish life and history in Saxony more visible. Above all, this includes participatory workshops for young people. In exchange with other participants, it became clear that creative methods open up new possibilities for reaching people emotionally and sustainably.

The presentation of our project was met with great interest. Many visitors were enthusiastic about the idea of conveying remembrance work through creative media. Conversations with partners from the cultural and educational sectors who were interested in collaborating were particularly valuable. A central aspect was the question of how joint formats can be developed to sustainably anchor remembrance culture in society.

The keynote speech by Dresden’s Deputy Mayor Eva Jähnigen emphasised the importance of social engagement and interdisciplinary cooperation. This message was reflected throughout the event: remembrance culture is not an isolated discipline, but a central social task. The event showed that there is a great deal of interest and many committed stakeholders who are working together to keep history alive and create spaces for encounters and dialogue.

LET’S SHARE ONE UMBRELLA was an inspiring platform for interdisciplinary exchange. Our project has gained valuable momentum and new contacts from this evening – an important step in further strengthening the visibility of Jewish life in Saxony. We look forward to the next steps and the opportunities that arise from these encounters!
