Jüdisches Leben in Sachsen sichtbar machen – Looking back and ahead at our Online-Multiplier
What does effective educational work against antisemitism look like in practice?
Last Thursday, 18 June, we discussed this question together with teachers, youth workers and civic education experts. During our online multiplier event, “Jüdisches Leben in Sachsen sichtbar machen”, we not only presented the findings from 30 months of project work but also explored with the participants the challenges that educators face today in combating and preventing antisemitism.
Exchange and Reflection
During three breakout sessions, there was a lively exchange of views on regional differences in school-based work, methods and approaches to extracurricular education, and project funding.
The various stakeholders from schools and civil society agreed: We need programs that highlight and share Jewish culture and history in everyday life, establish personal connections, and educate people about antisemitism in an interactive way—and these programs must be visible, well-connected, and sustainably funded.
A Look Back at 30 Months of Project Work
Those were the goals also pursued with our project “Jüdisches Leen in Sachsen sichtba machen”. The 84 workshops, film screenings, conferences, city tours, concerts and exhibitions held as part of this project demonstrated that there is considerable interest in Jewish history and contemporary Jewish life. Through interactive and creative engagement with Jewish culture and regional contexts, as well as by challenging stereotypes, students, youth workers and the general public had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding.
Our findings and results captured in free handout
Although the multiplier event marked the end of the project, the findings, experiences and perspectives from two and a half years of project work remain available to participants and anyone who was unable to attend, and will continue to be so for the time to come, in the form of our handout: „Erkenntnisse, Erfahrungen und Perspektiven“.
The publication summarises the key findings of the project „Jüdisches Leben in Sachsen sichtbar machen“ and provides suggestions for educational and cultural initiatives, civil society and politics.
The complete handout is available for download as of now:
Sustainability of the approaches developed
Even now that the project has come to an end, it remains clear that there is still significant need for varied and up-to-date educational programmes on Jewish life. The materials, methods and recommendations developed as part of the project should therefore be made available in the long term and adapted to be used in new contexts.
The aim remains to strengthen sustainable educational structures that highlight the diversity of Jewish life and contribute to a reflective and democratic society.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all those who took part in the multiplier event for the valuable exchange of views and the joint reflection.
